Güzelyurt: Where History and Nature Meet
Introduction
Güzelyurt is one of the most unique districts of Aksaray. While exploring this area, you’ll discover not only historical landmarks but also enchanting valleys and traditional stone houses surrounded by natural beauty. The Gelveri Houses, reflecting both Ottoman and Greek architecture, are among the most striking structures in the region. At Viofun, we highly recommend visiting Güzelyurt for its preserved historical charm, peaceful atmosphere, and deep connection with nature.
General Information
Güzelyurt has hosted many cultures throughout history. Formerly known as Gelveri, this district was once home to both Greeks and Turks who lived together for many years. Following the 1924 population exchange, the Greek population left the area, but the stone mansions and old churches they built still stand today. The cut-stone buildings reflect traditional Cappadocian architecture, and some of them are now used as boutique hotels or art studios.
