Overview

Hagia Sophia: The Legendary Monument That Defies Time

One of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks, Hagia Sophia has stood at the crossroads of empires for over 1,500 years. Originally built in 537 AD by Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I, it was later converted into a mosque by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, became a museum in 1935, and was reopened as a mosque again in 2020.

Awe-Inspiring Architecture

With its massive 55-meter-high dome, shimmering gold mosaics, grand calligraphy panels, and captivating light play, Hagia Sophia represents a brilliant fusion of Eastern and Western architectural styles.

Location

Hagia Sophia is located right in Sultanahmet Square, at the heart of Istanbul’s historic peninsula.
