Olympos Ancient City: A Legendary Lycian Settlement Where History Meets Nature

Introduction

Imagine a place hidden within the mysterious nature of the Mediterranean—where history and adventure intertwine. Olympos Ancient City, nestled in a lush green valley that opens to the sea, attracts both history enthusiasts and nature lovers with its mystical atmosphere. As one of the most important cities of the Lycian civilization, Olympos is not only fascinating for its ruins but also for its beach visited by caretta carettas, the mysterious Chimaera (Yanartaş), and its bohemian vibe—making it a destination worth exploring.

General Information

Where is Olympos?

Olympos is located in Kumluca, a district of Antalya, right next to Çıralı. It lies approximately 85 km from Antalya city center. It’s a perfect destination for those looking to explore both nature and ancient Lycian heritage.

Historical and Cultural Significance

Founded in the 2nd century BC, Olympos was one of the most important port cities of the Mediterranean during the Lycian period. Over time, it witnessed pirate attacks, Roman rule, the Byzantine era, and eventual abandonment—leaving behind traces of many civilizations. As a member of the Lycian League, the city later became a pirate hideout before flourishing again under Roman control. The ruins that have survived to this day reflect the city's former grandeur.
